The weather can make exercise uncomfortable, so here are some tips for exercise in the summer months.
Wear Appropriate Clothing
This can make a big difference, wear lightweight, loos fitting clothing and choose garments that wick moisture from your skin.
Hydrate
This is really important, as you sweat you lose more fluids, so drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise. Avoid caffeine and alcohol before you exercise as they can dehydrate you.
Indoors
Stay indoors. Home workouts using apps or online are a convenient way to keep active indoor. Gyms and sports centres often have air conditioning for their classes.
Time of Day
Workout first thing in the morning or later in the evening to miss the hottest parts of the day. Morning exercise is a great way to put you in a good mood and set you up for the day.
Cycling
A great way to exercise with minimal strain on your body. There are plenty of trails and cycle paths around Milton Keynes and the breeze will help you keep cool.
Swimming
The water will keep you cool and its a great overall body workout. Whether you want to try water aerobics, lane swimming or just a splash about, this is great exercise in the summer.
Hiking
Explore nature, often these trails have plenty of shade. Wear comfortable footwear and consider first thing in the morning as a great time to get out.
Know Your Body
Listen to your body. If you start to feel light headed or tired then stop exercising. Find the right balance to stay active this summer.
